Room 2 and Room 16 invited Ella from the Whitebait Connection to teach our Tamariki about one of our local streams, the Tararata Stream, which flows into the Manukau Harbour. We learned about fresh water, why it is important, what the threats are and how we can be Kaitiaki for our local streams.
At the end of our first session the students drew the things that show that a stream is healthy: fish, eels, fish eggs, insects, birds, plants and trees along the banks, and traps for keeping pests under control.
We are looking forward to our next learning session with Ella.
